Satish moved to Manhattan from Bombay, India in 1991 and attended Kansas State University. He began frequenting the Gin Mill in 1995 and played on the first dart league team out of the Gin Mill, called the Lounge Lizards. He liked the bar so much that he was hired as a bartender in June of 2003 and became the Manager several years later. He left the bar in 2013 to continue his pursuit of his first passion, his IT career until 2022.
Tanya moved to Manhattan with her family in the summer of 1992, when her dad got stationed at Ft. Riley. She started KSU as a freshman in the Fall of 1992. She learned the game of darts, and this is when she met Satish for the first time. Go figure, they met at Charlies Bar. She moved to San Antonio in the Winter of 1996 and then moved back in the Summer of 2003 after she and Satish got married in 2002. She began working at the Gin Mill in 2004 as a waitress and shortly thereafter became a bartender. She worked on and off at the bar for 13 years and became the Manager after Satish ended his employment at the bar.
Greg Finn, the previous owner of the bar approached Tanya at the beginning of her 6:00 shift on a Friday in early 2017 and said, “I’m ready to sell, are you ready to buy?” We then scrambled to get everything in order to create a corporation and accomplish everything else necessary to purchase and run the pub. Greg retired on September 15th, and we opened the doors under our ownership on September 16th, 2017. Luckily, the staff transitioned with us.
We are extremely proud of the changes that we have implemented over the years, our wonderful staff who have decided to become part of the Finn’s family, our wonderful patrons, who continue to stick with us through all the changes, and the all-inclusive environment that we have created. We are also honored to be part of the Downtown MHK community, as it has been home to us for over 20 years now. There is no other place we’d rather call home.
We enjoy traveling, especially internationally. We love to watch the Chiefs and Cats together and for Tanya, she is still a Steelers fan as well. We enjoy listening to classic rock together as well as brainstorming on how to make additional improvements to the bar. Tanya loves to decorate and sing and Satish loves to garden, cook, and learn how to fix and construct things. This trait is particularly handy when it comes to different projects in the bar as well as figuring out how to hang or display everything that Tanya likes to purchase, especially for different holidays, as we tend to go all out for Halloween and Christmas. We are also extremely proud of both our daughters, Alyssa and Aevan.
